I hope I can clear up the debate of Selenite Vs Satin Spar in this post. Some people even call satin spar fake selenite!
I was so excited when I first started buying crystals for my website. I placed a huge order for selenite wands, hearts, eggs, charging plates, and towers. Drawn to the wonderful properties of its calming soothing energy had me hooked! It clears and aligns chakras and auras. Selenite has a powerful vibration and is good for all types of spiritual work. Who doesn’t love it? It’s so awesome!
Then I noticed postings that what I had wasn’t true selenite. What?!!! There were so many written words stating that I had bought “fake selenite”. And what I had was satin spar. Disappointed, but not defeated, I needed to know more.
So, of course, I went deeper. Researching satin spar, it seemed to me that the two minerals were very similar. Well, they look pretty much the same. They have the same feel to them, as well as that wonderful cleansing energy.
What is the Difference Between Selenite and Satin Spar?
Not much! Both selenite and satin spar are the same mineral, a form of gypsum. Each one has crystallized differently, is all. The name selenite comes from the Moon Goddess Selene.
The Properties of Selenite
Selenite is a crystallized form of gypsum that is clear like glass and forms in sheets.
It calms, soothes, and brings in a deep sense of peace and tranquility. It’s powerful vibration opens, clears, and activates the crown, third eye, and soul star chakras. Selenite aligns and clears the chakras and aura. It is good for all types of spiritual work.
Selenite lifts awareness to higher planes to meet Spirit Guides and Guardian Angels. It also facilitates receiving inner guidance. The mineral stimulates brain activity, expands awareness, and also symbolizes the clearest mind attainable. It is a stone of peace, enlightenment, and also purification.
A selenite wand pointed at the third eye sends energy like a gust of wind through the forehead and out the crown. Along the spine, it energetically aligns the chakras and vertebrae. Selenite connects very strongly to the physical body and supports a hectic life. It also boosts personal growth during times of stagnation. The stone strengthens the bones, aids in fertility, and also restores supplements to the skin. Selenite clears stagnation in a specific area of the body and is good for treating cancer.
It’s also good for meditation, telepathy, stimulating the mind, and clearing the mind when making difficult decisions. It’s a grounding stone. Selenite is a good massage tool to whisk blockages away from the energy field. It is also called the lucky stone and brings good fortune. Good for use in power grids either by itself or in combination with other stones. It contains all the positive qualities of quartz crystals in healing power and protection. Selenite charges other crystals and doesn’t need charging. Unless it’s used often for clearing out energy, then it should be cleansed occasionally.
The Properties of Satin Spar
Satin spar is silky, translucent, and fibrous. It is carved into shapes many times like eggs and thick wands. It has all the same metaphysical properties as selenite.
In Conclusion
Selenite looks a little different than satin spar selenite, but metaphysically there’s no difference. Even though satin spar can be called selenite, selenite is not satin spar.
Because of the way satin spar forms, it can be carved into all kinds of shapes, like towers, hearts, and spheres.
Selenite is the name used most often when describing this form of gypsum. I’ve added the name “satin spar” to all my pieces on the website that are satin spar selenite. And the pieces of clear selenite are called just that . . . selenite!
